Megasari was born in Tabanan on the west
coast of Bali.
She studied art at the Institute Indonesian
Art (ISI) in Yogyakarta (Central Java), specializing in
Printmaking, especially woodcuts.
In Yogya, she met her future husband I
Gusti Putu Suteja, a descendant
of the famous Ubud artist I
Gusti Nyoman Lempad, and now they are live in Ubud with their
children.
It is very rare to find a Balinese
printmaker, and Megasari's work is particularly interesting
because of her use of motifs that seem to echo an ancient
Indonesian culture which both Balinese and Javanese people
can recognize and respond to. Also the rich texture she
produces marks Megasari's work as different from woodcut
prints. She normally only makes four or five prints from one
woodcut. The print number is written on each print.
Mega's work is now attracting
international attention, with her recently being invited to
hold a number of shows in Japan.
